Mater Academy was impressive on both sides of the ball as the Lions rolled to a 58-0 victory over district foe Mourning.
Senior quarterback Kaywon Hanna passed for 155 yards — while running for 54 — and tossed four touchdowns as he celebrated a nice win on his 18th birthday.
Mater improved to 3-1 while Mourning remained winless at 0-3.
“The win was a real team effort from everybody,” Hanna said. “This is the best way to celebrate your birthday.”
Never miss a local story.
Defensively, the Lions were led by defensive back Nez Dacosta whose impressive leaping interception led to a 68-yard return.
After the game, defensive back Latavious Brini said he attended his first Miami game Saturday, saying “it was one of the greatest experiences of my life. I had a lot of fun. I got a chance to be on the field with coach Mark Richt after the game.”
Brini, a Georgia commit, plans on multiple collegiate visits including trips to Florida, Georgia, USC, Notre Dame and Louisville.
