Florida quarterback Will Grier will start Saturday’s SEC opener at Kentucky.
The redshirt freshman quarterback will make his second straight start, but coach Jim McElwain plans to continue rotating Grier and sophomore Treon Harris until either quarterback seizes the job.
After playing the first four series in last weekend's win over East Carolina, Grier watched the fourth quarter from the sidelines following a pair of shaky second-half series. He’s turned the ball over twice in two games, while Harris has yet to commit a turnover on the season.
Still, Grier, who is 26 of 35 for 317 yards and four touchdowns on the season, will be given the initial opportunity to win the job outright against the Wildcats (2-0).
Never miss a local story.
McElwain said if one of the quarterbacks establishes the “hot hand” on Saturday, then the rotation would end.
