FIU sophomore Jonnu Smith made the 33-player midseason John Mackey Award watch list.
The Mackey Award, named after the NFL Hall of Famer often considered the original multi-threat modern tight end, goes to college football’s outstanding tight end.
Smith’s 34 catches for 411 yards and four touchdowns leads FIU in each category. He’s one of nine freshmen or sophomores on the list.
FIU still leads the nation in fumble recoveries (16) and total turnovers gained (24). Despite losing the turnover battle Saturday 5-3, the Panthers still rank fourth in turnover margin at plus-1.57 per game.
