The people have spoken.
Avid University of Miami football fans who are neither season-ticket holders nor Hurricane Club members will be pleased to learn that the Hurricanes have done an about-face on the recently announced changes to CanesFest.
CanesFest, from 4 to 7 p.m. Aug. 17 at BankUnited Center, is now open to everyone – whether or not you’re a season-ticket holder or a Hurricane Club member.
“We listen to our fans and we always appreciate feedback,” said UM director of communications Chris Yandle. “We wanted to make sure we included all our fans.”
Fans reacted positively on Twitter as word spread of the change.
“I think UM got it right with opening up Canesfest to all! #Canesfam,” tweeted one fan, among many who were upset about potentially being kept out of the event.
“U know it My Sister!’’ someone else replied. “It’s not us if it’s not ALL of us!”
Another reaction on Twitter: “UM was smart holding off on news about #CanesFest to public. They made a few extra bucks lol.”
The ever-popular CanesFest draws fans from near and far, and gives them an opportunity to meet individual players, as well as get autographs. They also can mingle with coaches, and partake in various games and activities.
Many of the UM athletic teams play a part in CanesFest.
Tickets will be available for single-game and season packages for football, and there will be a men’s basketball select-a-seat event as well.
