Add the University of Miami to the list of basketball programs wooing Jimmy Nichols, Jr., a 6-8 forward who will be a senior at Conway (S.C.) High in the fall.
According to the player’s Twitter account, he has received 16 scholarship offers, most of them in the past week, including from UM, Georgetown, Wake Forest, Nebraska, Hofstra, Old Dominion, Coastal Carolina, Longwood, Murray State, and Towson.
Nichols, Jr., averaged 15 points and 10 rebounds last season, and was named to the South Carolina 5A All-State team. His high school coach is Michael Hopkins, who previously was head coach at Coastal Carolina and an assistant coach at Virginia Tech. Nichols, Jr., plays travel ball with Garner Road.
The Hurricanes are looking for help from college transfers and the high school Class of 2018 because there is a good chance rising sophomore guard Bruce Brown and incoming star recruit Lonnie Walker will both leave for the NBA after next season.
Another player reportedly considering UM is Sacred Heart transfer guard Quincy McKnight, a sophomore who would sit out next season. McKnight, 6-3, was second in the Northeast Conference last season with 18.9 points per game. He also averaged 4.9 rebounds and three assists for Sacred Heart last season. Other schools on his list are Wichita State, Western Kentucky, Penn State, Monmouth, Seton Hall and Creighton.
Rice transfer guard Marcus Evans considered Miami, but opted to follow his Rice coach Mike Rhoades to Virginia Commonwealth.
