Hopkins to prep for Jones with December bout vs. Ornelas

The Sports Network

Bernard Hopkins hopes to tune up for a possible fight with Roy Jones Jr. by taking on Enrique Ornelas on December 2, with a press conference scheduled next Wednesday to officially announce the bout.

Hopkins and Jones have tentatively agreed to fight in 2010 if Hopkins defeats Ornelas in Philadelphia and the 40-year-old Jones upends IBO cruiserweight champion Danny Green in December.

Jones (54-5, 40 KOs) defeated Hopkins (49-5-1, 32 KOs) in a unanimous decision for the middleweight title in 1993 and the two avoided a rematch in the prime of their careers.

The 45-year-old Hopkins recovered from his loss to Jones to claim the middleweight crown and hold it for over a decade.

The Philadelphia native had 20 successful title defenses, including knockout wins over Felix Trinidad and Oscar de la Hoya, before losing two razor close decisions to Jermain Taylor. "The Executioner" is 3-1 since those fights, which includes handing Kelly Pavlik his first ever loss in October 2008.
