Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Josh Beckett will be scratched from Monday's start with back spasms.

Beckett has gone 16-6 with a 3.78 earned run average over 31 previous starts in 2009.

Michael Bowden, who has yet to record a decision this season, will get the start in Beckett's place.
