Rangers hire former Rockies manager Hurdle as hitting coach

The Sports Network

The Texas Rangers named Clint Hurdle as the team's new hitting coach on Thursday.

Hurdle, the former manager of the Colorado Rockies, replaces Rudy Jaramillo, who turned down the Rangers' one-year offer to remain as hitting coach and instead took his services to the Chicago Cubs. Jaramillo had been Texas' hitting coach since 1995.

The 52-year-old Hurdle was relieved from his managerial obligations with the Rockies during the 2009 season. He led Colorado to its only World Series appearance in team history in 2007, but the team got off to an 18-28 start this season before turning it around under bench coach Jim Tracy.

Hurdle was also Colorado's hitting coach for five seasons before being hired as manager in April, 2002. His record as skipper was 543-625, good for the most managerial wins in team history.
