Home runs were the rage on the 2008 Marlins.
This season, it's runs batted in.
For the first time in franchise history, the Marlins could have four players end up with at least 90 RBI.
``It shows that the balance in our lineup is good,'' said Cody Ross, who added two RBI, including a solo home run, Wednesday night against the Phillies to move to 90. ``It's one of those things that if one guy doesn't get it done, the next guy does.''
Hanley Ramirez, with 102 RBI, leads the way.
Jorge Cantu got his 91st RBI with a single in the ninth inning Wednesday, and Dan Uggla was at 84.
The Philadelphia Phillies are the only other National League team with a chance to have four players with 90 or more RBI.
``I think the most important stat offensively is the RBI,'' Cantu said. ``Having four guys in the lineup who can drive in 100 or 90 runs is super.''
The 2008 Marlins became the first team in major-league history to have all four infielders finish with at least 29 home runs. This year, it looks like only Uggla will reach that plateau.
Uggla hit his 30th home run Tuesday and, in doing so, established a major-league record.
According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Uggla became the first player whose primary position was second base (at least 100 games played at the position) to record at least 30 home runs in three consecutive seasons.
HERMIDA TAKES BATTING PRACTICE
Jeremy Hermida took batting practice Wednesday for the first time since Sept. 2 when he went to the sidelines with a strained oblique. It's possible Hermida could be available to return to the lineup by the weekend.
