Steve Sarkisian Takes Major Unprovoked Shot At Texas Tech
It's a shame Texas and Texas Tech aren't slated to face off this fall, because Steve Sarkisian just called out the Big 12 program.
Sarkisian was asked this Thursday at The Touchdown Club of Houston if the College Football Playoff committee will eventually take strength of schedule into consideration when picking the at-large bids. Apparently, that question inspired Sarkisian to take a shot at Texas Tech.
"There's a team in our state that plays in another conference that has a schedule that I would argue if I played with our twos and our threes, we could go undefeated, and they'll probably make the CFP this year," Sarkisian said.
Texas Tech made the CFP last season thanks to a 12-1 record. Despite earning a first-round bye, the Red Raiders lost their opening playoff game 23-0.
Texas, on the other hand, had to settle for a spot in the Citrus Bowl since it finished the regular season with three losses.
While Sarkisian's comments may come off as unprofessional, it's worth noting Texas Tech's schedule for the 2026 season isn't exactly loaded with tough matchups. If Joey McGuire's squad gets decent quarterback play, another CFP appearance should be in order.
It's been a rough week for Texas Tech.
Before Sarkisian ripped Texas Tech this Thursday, legendary quarterback Tom Brady referred to the school as a community college during his commencement speech at Georgetown University.
"Danny went undrafted out of Texas Tech. He was cut by three NFL teams. He wasn't the tallest," Brady said. "He wasn't the fastest, but he had a huge heart, and he played his ass off in the biggest moments. I hope you guys find colleagues like Danny. Having business school friends are great. Don't get me wrong, but sometimes you need a kid from a glorified community college who can bail your [expletive] out of any jam. If you want to achieve great things, surround yourself with people like him."
As you'd imagine, Texas Tech's alumni fired back at Brady on social media.
Luckily for Brady, some of that criticism has faded thanks to Sarkisian's remarks. It appears he's now public enemy No. 1 in Lubbock.
