What spectators need to know about ING Miami Marathon

Nearly 25,000 runners will be gathering before dawn Sunday in front of AmericanAirlines Arena, and they would no doubt appreciate some support.

If you haven’t hit the snooze button early Sunday morning, there’s still time to cheer on the nearly 25,000 runners competing in the ING Miami Marathon and Half Marathon.

The race begins at 6:15 a.m. with a 6:05 wheelchair start. The starting line is in front of AmericanAirlines Arena, with the finish down the road on Biscayne Boulevard at Bayfront Park — complete with live music, food, drinks and bleachers open and free to the public from 6:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The designated ING Cheering Zones:

Mile 10.5 at Omni Station, Northeast 15th Street and Biscayne Boulevard. Gather there from 6:45 a.m. to 9 a.m.

• Mile 7 to 8 is outside Publix at 1045 Dade Blvd., Miami Beach. Gather there from 6:45 to 8:30 a.m. as Publix employees join you with signs of encouragement.
• The finish line.

CocoWalk off Grand Avenue in Coconut Grove, at approximately Mile 18, has also become a popular place to gather and support the competitors.

They’ll be glad you did.
