The 70th Annual Miami Herald Spelling Bee will take place on Wednesday, February 24th, 2010 at Jungle Island for Miami-Dade and Wednesday March 3rd, 2010 at Broward Center for the Performing Arts for Broward County. The Middle School champion from each county will win an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C., to compete in the 2010 Scripps National Spelling Bee to be held in May as well as the chance to participate in organized sight seeing activities and special events with some of the best spellers in the country!
There will be other prizes for our area’s top spellers, including reference books, and gift certificates. In addition to improving students’ spelling skills and increasing their vocabularies, spelling bee participation provides valuable experience in developing poise—a necessary skill for success in public speaking, performing arts and athletics.
