Lesley Abravanel covers nightlife in her weekly column, Velvet Underground, in which she scopes the scene for stars, scandal and social studies. A former wanna-be clubkid in the late 80s NYC club scene heyday, she skipped town for Miami, where she's been since 1990--the so-called halcyon days of South Beach clubdom. While combing the scene definitely calls for lots of vitamins, under eye cream and Red Bull, the key ingredient to Lesley's undying energy is a daily bowl of gossip. In her scant spare time, she enjoys American Idol, karaoke and dive bars. She also writes travel books about the entire state of Florida, day and night. Send Lesley your questions regarding nightlife, rumors and gossip. Non monetary tips and daily rants are greatly appreciated as well. Read more from Lesley about the Scene in the Tropics in her weblog.

Q: Happy New Year! My company is producing a lifestyle shopping event at SOHO Studios in Wynwood scheduled for February 29 and March 1, 2012 wherein we showcase all of the products and services that every "It Girl" needs to maintain her fab lifestyle and get ready for Spring/Summer 2012 and beyond! I wanted to see what we would need to do to get an event listing for the event. (www.itgirlexpo.com) In addition, I wanted to see if you would be interested in attending the event and taking up residence in the blogger corner. We are looking for bloggers to attend the event and provide style advice, report on the event, interact with the media and of course promote their blogs! Is this something you would be interested in participating in? I have a blog of my own (www.shortcutstofabulous.com) and I came up with the blogger corner concept based on my own experiences as a blogger. I look forward to hearing from you soon... Thanks for your time.

A: Thanks for the 411. If the event takes place at night, I would consider it for my column, Velvet Underground. If not, I can't really help, nor would I ever offer anyone style advice, ha, but thanks for the invite!Submitted by ESTHER BEHMOIRAS FIS from HOLLYWOOD, FL

Q: Dear Lesley I'm writing in the hope you may massively guide me to the best party NYE. Heading across from London and incredibly keen to have the most righteously unforgettable evening Miami has to offer. Please may you give me a light push in the right direction. Which parties will kick off? Which party is the must be at etc.etc. I would be formidably grateful for your guidance... Hope you can help, keeping my fingers crossed Kindest of regards Fleur
Answered 12/21/11 13:32:30 by Lesley Abravanel
A: Hey Fleur--it all depends on what sort of scene you are looking for. Tickets to most events are absolute rackets --for instance, Sebastian Ingrosso and Busta Rhymes at LIV for...$575. Outrageous. But if that's your scene...I have written about many events in my column, Velvet Underground, so you may want to search those and see if any hit your fancy. Let me know!Submitted by Mike from chicago,il

My style expert is going to be in Miami next week and I wondered if on Friday Nov 11 you'd like to meet her at a local store and do an interview about hot night, club, evening fashions? We could make it visual and she could tell you about what is in, what's out etc. Let me know and we can book something! Laura

Q: Club Play South Beach would like to invite you to the website re-launch party for the online magazine Sportsaliy.com. Natosha Dooling, wife to NBA Star Keyon Dooling has created a new website called Sportsality, which is the mix of sports and reality. This site was created to focus on all the good things that athletes do once they are off the field or court. Sportsality is giving athletes and their families a chance to tell their side of the story, while giving the reader the real deal and not what the media betrays them to be. As you are aware of all the bad press these athletes and their families get due to shows like "Basketball Wives", we would like a chance to tell our side of the story.

Which hotel/bar/lounge/club at the beach are the most happening on a specific weekday (like the old Delano Tuesdays etc.) It would be just amazing with a quick update! Thanks Peter

Q: Hi Lesley, I really enjoy reading your column 'Scene in the Tropics' from out here in LA and wanted to call your attention to my upcoming gig on CRIMINAL MINDS (it's next Wednesday, Oct. 12th). Joan Fleischman did a nice write-up on me in 'Talk of Our Town' a few years ago (November 16, 2008) and I'm sure all my friends in Miami would love to catch the show! Can you please tell me how to email you a pdf file - it's a great photo of me and Joe Mantegna on the Criminal Minds set? Thanks for your interest. Regards, Tom Derek

Q: Did you see this? http://www.nypost.com/p/news/national/od_probe_of_pimp_QrmICzG9dLzTDAbdfhf4yI This is disgusting. Predators preying on a naive out of town young woman eager to make "connections" is... criminal. How this could be sweep under that carpet for 18 months is criminal as well. There should be charges filed. How these guys can escape any kind of criminal responsibility is... impossible to understand. I know Zoltan. He's a nice guy who has been out of control for a long time. Like most of the scenesters. And they always seem to escape culpability. Eric

Q: Hi Lesley You helped me with some recomendations a few years ago when I visited from London. Am glad to say I'm coming back in October. I'm looking for clubs that do not play R&B/rap etc. My favourite club on my last visit was Back Door Bambi - and I see that's at the Vanguard. Are there any other indie/disco/electro places - how about Bardot? Thanks for your help - can't wait to get back to your great city.
Answered 09/02/11 11:16:37 by Lesley Abravanel
A: Back Door Bamby is no more. But check out Bardot, Vagabond, Grand Central, Electric Pickle..all over the causeway and not on South Beach!
