A: Meantime visit my blog with such frequency that both your boss and your wife (or husband) threaten to fire you.Submitted by Bruno Ponce-Jones from Rio de Rio
Q: Greg, now that you've heard Randy Moeller's goal calls, please tell me which goal call would be funnier: "He shoots, he scores!! Star light, star bright, first star I see tonight!!!" or "He shoots, he scores!! Mary had a little lamb, his fleece was white as snow!!!"
Answered 12/01/08 14:01:27 by Greg Cote
A: Bruno, I think the latter is clear winner for the snow reference, especially if he throws in a little lamb accent: "Mary had a little la-aa-amb..."Submitted by Henry Huggins from Bitsy's Doghouse
Q: Greg, which NFC division do the Dolphins play next year? NFC East last year and NFC West this year, so it'll either be the North or South, but I don't know which one it'll be. I'm hoping it's the North; I'll take my chances with Detroit and then either Minnesota, Chicago or Green Bay at home rather than Carolina, Tampa Bay and Atlanta. (Not to mention what Brees would do to our secondary, even if it is improved next year!)
Answered 12/01/08 13:59:51 by Greg Cote
A: Henry, unfortunately for Miami the rotation swings to the tough NFC South next year.Submitted by juju from Deerfeild Beach
Q: two weeks and two players out 4 season. looks like Ginn is making an effort to step up but droped a nice pass. Has Starberry been released yet or what and can you see him fitting in nicely w/ Heat?
Answered 12/01/08 13:58:29 by Greg Cote
A: Juju, yeah the Dolphins had a nice run of great luck with injuries, now Camarillo and Smiley on consecutive weeks. Both big losses. Ginn had a quiet day including that drop. Thought Bess stepped up. Marbury and Knicks still negotiating a buyout and think Miami is interested. (Check my blog soon for a Marbury post).Submitted by Curious Jorge from Miami beach
Q: Greg, next year's schedule for UM features a home game against Oklahoma as well as road games versus Florida State, Virginia Tech and North Carolina. I think those are four losses. Add in South Florida at home - that's a game that can go either way. Georgia Tech at home - we've lost four in a row to them and they're going to be much better (and probably much healthier) next year than they were 12 days ago, as frightening as that may seem. This is a tough slate this team faces next year. The two weakest areas on this team are on the offensive line and in the secondary. These are also the two areas that are NOT generally quick fixes in the world of college football. Don't assume that a regression in record is out of the question. If that does, in fact, happen, then I do think the program is in serious danger.
Answered 12/01/08 13:54:55 by Greg Cote
A: Curious Jorge, I agree the schedule gets tougher and that UM had better get better to meet the challenge.Submitted by Ali B from North Miami Beach
Q: how often does someone tell you you have the best job in america?
Answered 12/01/08 13:53:52 by Greg Cote
A: Ali, I think sports writers hear that or something similar quite a lot. I hear it mostly from my wife whenever I start complaining about work too much.Submitted by Ruth from Vero Beach
Q: Does anyone care about Hockey at all?
Answered 12/01/08 13:50:16 by Greg Cote
A: Ruth, I got a chuckle out of your question. Assuming you mean South Fla and the Panthers, the answer is of course debatble. Too bad we can't borrow a little hockey passion from cities like Detroit and Boston that have an overload. Then again, the Panthers' long playoff drought makes THEM to blame more than the populace.Submitted by Julie from Crawfordville, Fl
Q: One more thing about the Canes...this 2 headed quarterback thing; in all my years, (and there have been alot of them,) I have never seen this system work, have you?
Answered 12/01/08 13:48:00 by Greg Cote
A: Julie, I have seen it work temporarily, usually out of necessity, but not as a permanent fixture. There is a fine line to any team's motive for this including UM's. Is it that both guys are that good? Or is it that neither has really stood out?Submitted by N.J.John from New Jersey
Q: Greg, many of your regular blog family members use crazy names to post for laughs, and I'm sure some of them amuse even you. You recently called out one individual for posting under others names, a blog no-no. Can you tell us if the individual you called out is the infamous Bostonian, one who has caused much Kaos in the past.
Answered 12/01/08 13:46:18 by Greg Cote
A: N.J. John, all I can say for sure if that the "Bostonian" and our more recent ne're-do-well have different IP addresses, leading me to believe they are not the same person. I just want everybody in my blog to sing "Why Can't We Be Friends" by War. Preferably in something close to harmony.Submitted by John from Jacksonville, Fl.
Q: Now that the Dolphins are 7-5 Do you think they will- Finsh with at least 9 wins if so How much?
Answered 12/01/08 13:43:09 by Greg Cote
A: John, they have a great chance to finish 3-1 from here for 10-6, although 2-2/9-7 is very possible as well. A playoff spot is very much a teetering maybe.Submitted by Curious Jorge from Miami beach
Q: Miami finished with a better record than exactly two teams in the ACC: Virginia and Duke. Everyone else was either 4-4 (like Miami) or 5-3. And this was a weak year for the ACC as well, Saturday's results against the SEC notwithstanding,. N.C. State, Georgia Tech, Boston College and Florida State are going to continue to improve and will challenge next year. Virginia Tech will be Virginia Tech. Maryland and Clemson, who knows, but they have the potential to be quite good. Miami? I can't say that. Randy Shannon has surrounded himself with great recruiters who are questionable coaches. Talent will only go so far. Somebody has to teach technique. Somebody has to teach fundamentals. I just don't see it in this bunch right now. We're veering towards insignificance.
Answered 12/01/08 13:41:07 by Greg Cote
A: Curious Jorge, you made some valid points as far as the evenness of the ACC and even the UM coaches, but you lost me at "veering toward insignificance." This is a program that went from 5-7 to (with a bowl win) 8-5, and is very young. I thinking "veering toward contention" is more like it.Submitted by Steve Warnell from Boynton Beach, Florida
Q: Greg, put the team record aside and put the quarterback situation aside (you and I could've done a better job than Kyle Wright and Kirby Freeman did last year). Can you honestly tell me that the Miami Hurricanes are better now than they were after the Florida and Texas A&M games? There's been a serious regression among the vaunted freshmen and sophomores. North Carolina State started 11 freshmen and sophomores - that wasn't a senior-laden team that rolled us in Raleigh. Over 1,000 yards and nearly 80 points conceded in the last two games -- that's more than just youth and inexperience talking.
Answered 12/01/08 13:38:15 by Greg Cote
A: Steve, those are fair points/questions by you. I do think some of the freshman performances sort of stagnated as much as regressed, but inconsistency is a hallmark of that kind of youth. The defensive collapse worries me more. Miami needs one of those two QBs to step up in a big way, and needs another really good recruiting class. Still don't think the Canes are very far from being very good.Submitted by Chris from Plantation
Q: What do you think the heat will do at the end of next year when all the big free agents become available? Including wade. Do we resign wade (hopefully) and possibly bring in another big name?
Answered 12/01/08 13:35:33 by Greg Cote
A: Chris, yeah Pat Riley and everybody else in the league are angling for the big summer of 2010, with the Knicks set to go hard after LeBron James. I still think Wade will be the next-best thing out there and that Miami should and WILL fight to keep him.Submitted by Nick Knox from Fort Myers
Q: Last year, the Dolphins found every way possible to lose these close games against the dregs of the league. This year, we're finding ways to win those games. We're not a good team yet - let's face it, this schedule wound up being pretty darn easy, and that's certainly helped in getting to 7 and 5 - but we're getting there. Baby steps, right?
Answered 12/01/08 13:33:58 by Greg Cote
A: OK onto the second half. Nick, I'd like to bottle your common sense and sell it to any idiots out there who are not absolutely THRILLED by the Dolphins' turnaround and progress. From 1-15 to talking playoffs is simply stunning.Submitted by Greg Cote from Cyberspace USA
