Born and raised in South Florida, she received a bachelor's degree in English from the University of Pennsylvania and a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University. She has been a reporter since 1991 and has worked at newspapers in central New Jersey, Washington, D.C. and West Palm Beach. She joined The Herald in 1998 and has written a Saturday column on politics since 1999.
