U.S. 1 is No. 1
The Florida Keys has something old and something new to share. The ``old'' is the historic Overseas Highway -- U.S. 1. The ``new'' is that it has been officially recognized as an All American Road, a national treasure.
Kudos to all who worked together to bring the coveted All American Road designation through the National Scenic Byways Program to our own U.S. 1, Mile Marker 110 to 0, and as far as the eye can see on either side. It was a long process that required a 39-page application, more than a year of planning and a lot of background work.
The designation puts U.S. 1 at the top of the list for more funding. Our only limitation will be our own imagination.
