Regarding Linda Robertson’s Aug. 19 article, “Lochte’s behavior offends Rio hosts”: Even though I admire this country, I have been unable to forget when, in the 1950s, two American sailors on leave climbed atop the head of the Jose Martí statue in Havana’s Central Park and urinated on it.
Nothing was done to them; they were turned over to the MPs. I guess the Brazilians had more guts than the Cuban police and government. Later on, Marlon Brando portrayed the image of the ugly American in a movie about an American diplomat. History keeps repeating itself.
