The Miami-Dade County Public Schools Board approved a partnership with Enroll America to help families sign up for health insurance.
When the marketplace first opened in 2013, privacy concerns were a major topic in the news. So much so that the Florida Legislature passed a law requiring all federal Affordable Care Act navigators to register with the state and adhere to strict security and privacy standards.
The ACA provides a healthy tension between creating opportunity to obtain affordable health coverage and protecting personally identifiable information. Navigators are vital in helping consumers prepare applications and enroll in marketplace coverage. They’re funded through federal grants and must complete comprehensive training, undergo criminal background checks and register with the state.
In Miami-Dade, the Epilepsy Foundation of Florida and Health Council of South Florida were awarded federal funds to provide navigator assistance. I’m proud to call them partners and residents can feel confident and comfortable when they sit down with their navigators to enroll before Feb. 15.
