Richard Masten’s Jan. 4 letter, Cops with cameras, concerned me as it said: “When the response to any of the armed confrontations between police and offenders immediately demonizes law enforcement . . .”
The one word that caught my attention was “offenders.” As far as I’m concerned, that word undercuts the point the writer was trying to make because there have been many non-offenders affected by the police.
Masten, like so many others in American society, accepts the false premise that anyone the police confront is an offender. That is a major cause of the issues we are having between the police and a segment of the population.
We need cops with cameras.
