Re the Jan. 18 story Special interests shape session as cash pours in: I am saddened and outraged by the blatant use of money as the sole determinant of viable legislation in Florida.
This summer, when I wrote about my concerns regarding fracking in Florida (Anticipate quakes, June 30, 2015), Cynthia Muir of the Florida Public Service Commission responded (No drilling in Florida, July 15, 2015) that there would be “no drilling of any kind in our state.”
Well, clearly Muir and the PSC have not anted up like Barron Collier Companies has because the bill to prevent local governments from regulating or banning fracking is a cash-fueled bullet speeding through both chambers, certain to become a law.
So let’s clarify and accurately define roles and responsibilities: Florida lawmakers are just cash depositories passing Big Money’s laws and the Public Service Commission is impotent.
