Re the Oct. 7 article Open-carry gun bill advances in committee: Much of the public is becoming immune to the type of epidemic carnage that took place in Roseburg, Oregon.
I recently came across a statistic that said there are more than 300 million guns in the United States, about one gun for every man, woman and child. The solution to this carnage offered by the NRA and so many others, including many state legislatures, is more guns, allowable in more venues.
Rep. Matt Gaetz’s bill, HB 163, would allow Floridians with concealed-weapons permits to carry those guns openly in public.
Few would argue with the conclusion that many mass murders are committed by mentally incompetent people, and that there is a desperate need for early recognition of mental illness and improved medical facilities to treat it.
Unfortunately, these measures are also needed for the NRA and many legislators across the country.
