Re the Aug. 22 article Mayor: New courthouse would mean higher tax: As usual, Mayor Carlos Gimenez is complaining about the cost of operating the county. Now it is the expense of a new courthouse.

Last year, the mayor determined it was too expensive for the main library to keep all of its space across from Government Center. Based on that reasoning, county government should relocate its offices, making way for the courthouse. The current courthouse can then be renovated and restored for future use to be determined. Probably, additional space can be found nearby to house other government offices.

Or, driving down to Florida City last year for a county budget hearing, I noticed a lot of empty land along the turnpike. I’ll bet it would take little time to assemble pre-fab units for our county departments. We can name it Government Village.
