Kudos to Fabiola Santiago for her historical account of the Cuban balseros — rafters — who came to our great country 20 years ago. Their success stories and passion for our country are similar to how Central and South American immigrants feel about America, whether in the United States legally or illegally. Central and South Americans, too, love our country, come here to work and want to contribute to America’s success. They, too, immediately want to become part of the community and want to become citizens claiming the United States as their new homeland. How sad it is that their love and devotion for our country is not recognized by all Americans.
