Too late for talk

In her Aug. 1 letter, Celia Torres laments that instead of fighting Hamas, Israel should “talk to find common ground.” Ms. Torres says she’s neither Jew, nor Muslim but a “proud atheist” and a Cuban grandmother. I don’t know if she came here from Cuba before or after Fidel Castro came to power, but I would ask her if the proud Cubans who fought and died in the name of freedom in Cuba at the Bay of Pigs and elsewhere should have talked to Castro the “find common ground?”

There can be a limit to reasonable people’s patience. Israel tried to talk reason while Hamas sent rockets into civilian communities and kidnapped and killed Israelis. There is a time to talk and a time to act — and now is the time for action.
