Mayor Herta Holly and Councilmen Hunt Davis and Jim McCoy have turned their backs on the gay and lesbian community and their families in Miami Shores.
By voting down a non-binding resolution in support of marriage equality by a 3-2 vote indicates they are out of touch with the residents of the Village. By keeping the “Village Beautiful” in the past, they ignore current values — especially those of their constituents.
Last week, the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals in Denver ruled in favor of same-sex couples’ freedom to marry. It is the second ruling by a federal appellate court since last year’s victory in the Supreme Court.
This ruling makes the legal consensus clear: Marriage discrimination is unconstitutional. We commend Vice Mayor Jesse Walters and Councilwoman Ivonne Ledesma for their courageous votes.
