JNC manipulation

Once again and without any explanation, Gov. Rick Scott has rejected an entire, diverse and exceptional list of candidates for the Palm Beach Judicial Nominating Commission.

As chair of the committee who vetted all the applicants and who reviews judicial candidates for nomination to the governor, it’s disappointing to continuously witness his manipulation of our judicial selection process. What he does, while legal, is just simply unfair.

The courts are an independent branch of government and his rejection of The Florida Bar’s nominees for the JNC is not the way it’s supposed to work.

This process was never intended for the governor to subvert the system so that from the inception he controls a court system that is intended to be fundamentally independent.
