The graphic and disturbing behavior of anti-immigration protesters it really symbolizes the worst of human behavior.

U.N. estimates of displaced refugees are in the tens of millions. Yet, we an entire nation of immigrants can’t find it in our hearts to care for a few thousand. It is beyond pathetic.

Those idiots stopping the buses must not be parents. We in Miami took in thousands of kids through Operation Pedro Pan. And many of them today are my fellow physicians at the hospital. The answer is not jingoism or detention. The Native tribes took in the Europeans and at a cost to themselves accepted and helped them.

If there were no Pocahontas, Sacajawea or Squanto, there would have been no Washington, Jefferson, or Madison. There must be a better way. The answer is tolerance and love.
