The attempt by Mayor Carlos Gimenez to defend himself and his proposed budget is “the worst case scenario” for the citizens of Miami-Dade County. We have a mayor who functions as a politician, primarily concerned about his popularity and ultimately his ability to be reelected.
He shifts concessions and blame onto the unions instead of discussing the realities that taxes need to be raised in order to adequately fund county services. A leader, not a politician, would have the ability and the courage to explain that the actual increase in taxes to most residents would be very small, well under $50 a year.
