The boating accident that resulted in young lives cut short on July 4 is heartbreaking. I have no doubt the city of Miami firefighters put forth their maximum efforts in attempting to rapidly identify victims and save lives in that chaotic scene. However, the additional help of the Miami-Dade County Marine Operations on the scene could have resulted in saved lives.

The hundreds of boaters in Miami-Dade should contact Mayor Carlos Gimenez and demand the Miami-Dade fire boat go back in service. The next tragedy could involve anyone’s loved ones. Firefighters, no matter which department they work for, all have one goal: saving lives.
