I read with interest the July 6 article 6 arrested, 2 hurt after game day at bar, about the violence at Baru Urbano in Doral after the Colombia/Brazil World cup game. Doral police dropped the ball on this one. It was arguably the biggest game in Colombia’s history. People were crammed into bars drinking since before noon.
Former Chief Richard Blom’s comment that, “You don’t go on alert because you’ve got the World Cup” is way off the mark under these circumstances. The chief must not be aware of who lives in his community, or what important events are taking place around him.
Everyone knows that the entire world is on alert during the World Cup. Doral appears to be the exception.
