Padgett moralizes

Tim Padgett’s June 29 Other View column, Banish the lout, is a classic example of hypocritical, moralistic journalism.

Tim Padgett’s June 29 Other View column, Banish the lout, is a classic example of hypocritical, moralistic journalism.

Padgett describes disgraced Uruguayan soccer player Luis Suárez, who bit an Italian opponent, as a lout, loathsome Bat Boy, cannibal, world’s dirtiest player, and racist thug, among other negative comments.

Objective journalism? Suarez was not given an opportunity to defend himself.

On the other hand, Padgett mentions without critique Uruguay’s legalized gay marriage, abortion and the production and sale of marijuana.

Apparently, in Padgett’s moral universe biting Italians and making racist statements is worse than killing and drugging Uruguayans.
