Re the June 20 letter Loopholes don’t help: Executive powers are not a “loophole.” They have been used historically to interpret and implement statutes and are commonly used by executive agencies. Nevertheless, President Obama has largely refrained from using this practical tool to inject rationality and humanity into a broken immigration system, optimistically awaiting congressional action.

Since partisan politics have made immigration reform an impossibility, it is incumbent on the president to inject common sense into the implementation of our current laws.
