Re Leonard Pitts’ June 4 column, On climate change, Obama’s action better late than never: I have a genuine concern that the debate about the causes of climate change will become an intellectual issue. In America when a problem falls into that category, we are guaranteed that it will never get solved.

Yet, there is a way out, We can tell liberals and conservatives, Republicans and Democrats to stop arguing. Climate change is here, and we better get ready for the worst-case scenario — which in Florida could be catastrophic.

I am amazed that I don’t hear any serious talk coming from the candidates. Who can come out with the best plan? Climate change is a significant challenge for our state. It’s time to concentrate on its potential effects. The forces clearly are already unleashed.
