Know your history

Daniel Burnett’s June 6 Other Views article, Many don’t know history of D-Day, is a sad commentary on our society and its educational system. Our nation’s young, as well as many older Americans, are ignorant of the country’s past. They can tell you what the Kardashians had for breakfast, but have no knowledge of even the major events in their nation’s history.
Our educational institutions are delinquent as well. In their zeal to retain and pacify the shallow tastes of students, they offer courses in frivolous subjects. It’s been said that war is God’s way of teaching Americans geography. Perhaps, but apparently not for long. I would wager that most foreign students know more about the history of the United States than do our own.
