Carl Hiaasen’s June 18 column, “Shootouts where good guys win only happen in the movies — bad movies,” was not amusing. He ignored the fact that the only reason more members of Congress probably were not wounded or killed is because an armed security detail travels with Rep. Steve Scalise.
Had that not been the case, others likely would have been wounded or killed. To be hovered in a dugout with no means of escape or ability to protect oneself is not a situation in which anyone would want to find themselves. If they had weapons in their gym bags, there would be a chance of survival.
