District 112 After helping incorporate Doral, Sandra Ruiz, 48, has served two terms on the City Council and now wants to go to Tallahassee to represent District 112.
Her experience as a city commissioner gives her the edge, though hospital executive Jeanette M. Nuñez, 38, has garnered strong GOP support for this seat being vacated by term-limited state Rep. David Rivera, who is running for Congress.
The political demographics of this district have been changing, with more Democrats and unaffiliated voters registered than Republicans. Ms. Ruiz would be a good fit.
A moderate who has been able to work well across party lines, Ms. Ruiz wants to provide tax incentives to help attract and grow small businesses to the district, which runs west of the Florida Turnpike in Miami-Dade and includes parts of west Miramar and Pembroke Pines in Broward, as well as parts of Naples in Collier County. For Florida House District 112, The Herald recommends SANDRA RUIZ.
