I recently re-read a Sept. 18, 1988 Herald column by Charles Whited pertaining to gun control. This column, Handgun questions hit core of values, could be written today, 27 years later, and nobody would know the difference. Same exact problems, different times.
The ease of obtaining guns hasn’t changed — in fact it’s easier. I cannot understand the lack of difficulty in getting a 100-round gun drum magazine for an AR-15 or the necessity of anyone having a weapon with a legal capacity of more then 10 rounds.
I’m not opposed to people who own guns — I am one myself. But I don’t understand the availability of AR-15s or gun drums to just anyone.
