JERUSALEM --
Hundreds of protesting Israeli Arabs have clashed with police in northern Israel. At least five policemen and six demonstrators are reported injured, including an Arab member of Israel's parliament.
The violence came after a march Thursday marking the uprooting of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians during the 1948 war over Israel's creation. Palestinians call the displacement their "nakba" - Arabic for catastrophe. It coincides with Israel's Independence Day celebration.
Israeli authorities say some protesters threw rocks at police and cars after the march. Protesters say they were provoked by right-wing Israelis yelling "death to the Arabs."
