Battle in Downtown Miami for "last" piece of undeveloped land
About 30,000 people live in the high-rise forest that is the Brickell neighborhood of downtown Miami. The population there more than doubled over the last decade. What used to just be a financial hub for Latin American and European banks has also become an urban core for Miami. Brickells overnight success has caused some problems. For one a lack of green space. The Trust for Public Land ranks Miami 94th on a list of 100 cities when it comes to park acreage per residents and thats even worse when you zoom in on Brickell. It all adds up to an interesting paradox: More people in Brickell means more demand for green space but it also means more expensive real estate and more trouble getting a park built. Reporter Kenny Malone headed out to a special plot of land -- where a group of green space advocates are making a last-ditch effort for a big park just south of the Miami River in Downtown Miami.
