A new roadway project and ongoing work will delay the commute this week in Miami-Dade County on U.S. 1 in Coral Gables as well as on the Homestead Extension of Florida's Turnpike and State Roads 836 and 826.
The new project was scheduled to take place along U.S. from Santona Street to Granada Boulevard and also at the intersection of Grand Avenue, all in Coral Gables. The project, expected to cost $762,000 and last about five months, includes extending left turn lanes, relocating trees, repaving and restriping.
On the turnpike, up to two lanes in either direction between Southwest 216th Street and Eureka Drive may be closed nightly from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. through Thursday for widening and express lane construction.
Never miss a local story.
In other turnpike restrictions, one lane in either direction between Eureka Drive and Killian Parkway may be closed nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. through Thursday, also for widening and express lane construction.
For the same purpose, one lane in either direction on the turnpike from Killian Parkway to Kendall Drive will be closed nightly beginning at 9:30 p.m. and expanding to a two-lane closure at 10:30 p.m. through Thursday. All lanes will reopen at 5 a.m. the next day.
Also for widening and express lane construction on the turnpike, up to two lanes northbound and southbound at various locations between Sunset Drive and Bird Road may be closed through Thursday. The first lane will close at 9:30 p.m. and the second at 10:30 p.m. Both lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. the next day.
Meanwhile, the entrance ramp to westbound 836 from northbound Northwest 27th Avenue will be intermittently closed for earthwork, installation of a temporary barrier wall and signage through Thursday from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. through Thursday, and again on Friday from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.Saturday.
