Broward man denies having sex trysts with minors

A Broward man pleaded not guilty in Fort Lauderdale federal court Thursday to charges of traveling to the Philippines to have sex with underage girls.

Donald Mathias, 64, of Davie, was charged with various offenses, including engaging in illicit sexual activities with minors overseas and offering to buy them to produce pornography.

Mathias is accused of making arrangements with the mother of two girls in the Philippines to have sex -- and then indeed having sex -- with them during two trips in 2007, according to an indictment.

Mathias also is accused of traveling to the Philippines in 2008, planning to have sex with the same girls, the indictment says.

If convicted, Mathias faces up to life in prison.
