The ninth inning turned into a brawl at a South Florida baseball game last week on a day the stands were packed with elementary school kids.
Andy Slater of 940-AM WINZ posted video of a full-fledged brawl that broke out last Wednesday between the Marlins Single-A affiliate Jupiter Hammerheads and the Daytona Tortugas, an affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds last week.
Tortugas manager Eli Marrero began yelling at the umpires after one of his players was hit with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Hammerheads manager Randy Ready came out of the dugout, Marrero threw a punch at Ready, then came a bench-clearing brawl that caused a 20-minute delay in the game, according to the Daytona Beach News-Journal.
Ready was injured in the brawl. A source told Slater, “They threw him into the wall. He pulled his hammy.”
It is unclear if anybody was suspended as a result of the brawl.
