Dania Beach Pier reopens after hunt for murder gun
The Dania Beach Pier reopened Thursday after police scuba divers finished their search for a gun they believe a hit man used to kill a woman's boyfriend, police said.
Jose Suarez, 29, of Davie, allegedly threw a .38-caliber handgun off the pier after killing a man for $200 in March, according to the arrest report.
Jose Manual Matute, 29, was found dead with two bullets in his brain at the Davie apartment he shared with his girlfriend, Sibia Martinez, 21. Police say Martinez paid Suarez $200 for the killing.
Martinez allegedly told a friend she was looking for someone to kill Matute. The friend, Cesar Banegas, 24, said he wouldn't do it, but that Suarez would, police said. On Aug. 27, Martinez, Banegas and Suarez were charged with premeditated murder.
