Just over 12 hours after his third place finish in the New Hampshire Republican primary, former Florida governor Jeb Bush spoke at a rally Wednesday morning at Sun City Hilton Head, in Bluffton. Bush invoked the presidencies of his father and brother when he told the crowd "South Carolina has been good to the Bushes in the past," and that he is "hoping and praying it'll be good again" when the state holds its Republican primary on Feb. 20.

On Monday, The Senate advanced a bill reopening federal agencies through Feb. 8 after Democrats relented and lifted their blockade against the legislation. The shutdown began Saturday after Democrats derailed a Republican measure that would have kept government open until Feb. 16. Democrats wanted to pressure the GOP to cut a deal protecting young immigrants from deportation and boosting federal spending.
Judge Thomas Rebull ruled in Joe Carollo’s favor Monday, allowing him to keep his Miami City Commission seat, after a lawsuit brought by Carollo’s political opponent, Alfonso “Alfie” Leon. The suit alleged Carollo did not reside in his West Brickell apartment for the required amount of time before qualifying for the election in November 2017. In that election, voters chose Carollo over Leon to represent them in District 3.
