Will city let drone fly over Miami Beach?

It’s a first, even by Miami Beach standards: Producers of The Real Housewives of Miami want to use a drone to film aerials of the city.

It’s a first, even by Miami Beach standards: Producers of The Real Housewives of Miami want to use a drone to film aerials of the city.

Commissioner Jonah Wolfson brought up the issue on Wednesday at the end of a marathon 15-hour commission meeting.

“I just picture 14-pound flying helicopters over people’s houses and I wonder if we should maybe not,” he said.

But commissioners weren’t as fired up about unmanned flying devices as Sen. Rand Paul recently was. The Kentucky Republican led a 13-hour filibuster to get answers from the White House about the potential use of drones against U.S. citizens on American soil.

The Miami Beach City Commission put off the issue until their next meeting, asking city staff not to permit Real Housewives to use the drones until a more-rested elected body gets a chance to vet the proposal.

Wolfson said: “I thought I could filibuster. I’m a big Rand Paul fan, and I was hoping that I could .

..”

“Good night, everybody,” one of the commissioners boomed into the microphone, cutting Wolfson off.

With that, the meeting was adjourned.
