After nearly a decade of serving as mayor of Doral, Juan Carlos Bermudez has a new gig working for the law firm Akerman Senterfitt. He will be part of the real estate practice group.
Bermudez, who became the first mayor of Doral in 2003, was term-limited out.
“I am here now and it’s great,” Bermudez said Wednesday, his first day on the job.
He will be succeeded by entrepreneur Luigi Boria, who won the Tuesday election. Bermudez had endorsed Boria’s opponent, former school board member Frank Bolaños.
Bermudez will work on land use and zoning, governmental law and procurement, and international investment, all areas he tackled as mayor.
“I am looking forward to combining the stuff I knew from before,” he said.
His new job will have him working alongside another erstwhile mayor: Neisen Kasdin, the former mayor of Miami Beach, who is the managing shareholder of Akerman’s Miami office.
“It allows you to take your passion of molding and developing a city and merge it with your career,” Kasdin said.
