Bahamas OAS envoy urges more aid for Haiti

For all the talk about Haiti, its poverty, reports of instability and other challenges, the international community has not taken full advantage of the chance to provide the necessary resources that the country needs to reverse its grave problems, the Bahamas ambassador to the Organization of American States, C.A. Smith, was quoted as saying in the Bahama Journal.

The newspaper reported that Smith brought Haiti’s predicament into focus this week when he turned over the chairmanship of the OAS Permanent Council – the second highest decision making body in the hemispheric organization – to Barbados Ambassador Michael King.

The council’s chairmanship rotates every three months.
