Independent journalist expects trial

Independent journalist Julio Beltrán was detained by police last week as he was about to pray for the freedom of political prisoners at Friday mass at Our Lady of Carmen church.

HAVANA, Cuba, Oct. 22 (Belinda Salas / www.cubanet.org) – Independent journalist Julio Beltrán was detained by police last week as he was about to pray for the freedom of political prisoners at Friday mass at Our Lady of Carmen church.

Three weeks ago he was detained by police who opened on file on him for allegedly leading a counter-revolutionary group that threatened national security.

“I’m expecting anything from the police as I was threatened last Saturday again in my home,” Beltrán said. “They reminded me that I’m awaiting a trial that could lead to prison.”
