Anti-iguana action urged

The Broward County Commission is considering adoption of a resolution that would ask the state's wildlife regulation agency to classify iguanas as ``reptiles of concern.''
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission requires residents who buy those creatures to microchip them and pay a $100 licensing fee. Reptiles currently on the list include Nile Monitor lizards, Burmese pythons and anacondas.
The state currently considers iguanas too docile to be put on the list. But local governments, including Palm Beach and Monroe counties, along with the city of Pompano Beach, have all adopted resolutions urging the commission to change its mind.
The commission is expected to make a decision before the end of the month.
