Leave Briar Bay alone

My family has lived in the Briar Bay (The Falls) area for 10 years. As part of unincorporated Miami-Dade County, we have access to the same schools, parks, roadways and libraries as any other county resident. We have had to utilize the services of the police and fire departments and both responded in a reasonable amount of time. Our garbage is always picked up.

As a matter of fact, after the hurricanes of 2004 and 2005, the county cleaned our neighborhood rather quickly. Our common areas are kept clean and the landscaping is well-maintained.

Our only complaint has been the flooding problems we have experienced in recent years. Our home was flooded during Hurricane Irene in 1999, the ''No Name'' storm of 2000, and Hurricane Katrina in 2005. We love our neighborhood so we have always hoped that this problem would get fixed someday.

Well, I am happy to report that a drainage improvement project is underway which will alleviate the flooding in my neighborhood.

As a result, I would like to thank the Miami-Dade county commissioners for listening. I just hope they are listening when we say we do not wish to be incorporated.

The vast majority of us are content living under the umbrella of unincorporated Miami-Dade County and using its services. Fiscally, incorporating makes no sense right now. Besides, ``If it ain't broke, don't fix it.''
